1. September 8, the celebration of the Nativity of Mary, the day on which six years ago our website was renewed by opening up to translation into various languages, is accompanied this year by an extraordinary gift from heaven.
Chinese translation is going to be inaugurated from this date.
It is the 10th language, after Italian, French, Spanish, English, German, Portuguese, Romanian, Russian and Swedish.
Never, ever, not even purposely dreaming of it, would the thought of a Chinese translation have crossed our minds.
Yet, what seemed unthinkable has become reality.
2. It could be said that we did not go looking for the Chinese translation. The opportunity presented itself before us.
We regard this opportunity as “a good giving and a perfect gift from above, coming down from the Father of lights” (Jas. 1:17)
3. At this moment we seem to hear within our hearts the words of encouragement spoken by our Lord in a night vision to St. Paul who was on his way to Corinth: “Do not be afraid. Go on speaking, and do not be silent, for I am with you. No one will attack and harm you, for I have many people in this city” (Acts 18:9-10).
4. From this date a new “(preaching) door for the world ” (Col. 4:3) opens wide before us.
It opens wide before an immense multitude of people whom Jesus Christ loved with singular love and for whom he willingly shed his blood, the price for their redemption.
In his perfect knowledge Jesus saw all those who in the course of time would bring the gospel to that vast continent.
Among them he also saw today’s Chinese and he also saw us.
He was thinking of us too, when he said to St. Paul, “Do not be afraid…” (Acts 18:9-10).
5. At this point it is spontaneous to repeat with Mary, under whose protection we have placed the present form of preaching from the beginning, the words stirred up by the Holy Spirit on the occasion of her visit to her cousin Elizabeth: “My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord; my spirit rejoices in God my savior.
For he has looked upon his handmaid’s lowliness . ….
The Mighty One has done great things for me …. lifted up the lowly ” (Luke 1:46-47,49,52).
Let all our visitors gladly join in this song of praise to God and thanksgiving.
Wishing you well, I bless you and remember you in prayer.
