hallo father Angelo,

I congratulate you for the work you are doing,

Now I move on to the question. I haven’t clear the concept of the Trinity; I know what it means( Trinity is the three persons of God, but at the same time are the same person). Therefore I think the father, the Son and the Holy Spirit as the same thing.

Therefore I call Jesus “father” it will not be wrong.

However I have never heard the expression “Father Jesus”, If anything “Lord Jesus”. Indeed I expressed my doubt to my religious education teacher and he said that it is not correct to call Jesus father because he is actually  the son. but the Son is also the father…

Oh well, obviously the trinity cannot be understood by the human mind.

I would like to know if, in your opinion, it’s correct to call Jesus Father.

I thank you and may the Lord bless you.

  1. dearest

Trinity is the three persons of God, but at the same time are the same person;

Well it’s correct the  Trinity are the three persons of God, but to say that they are the  same person is wrong.

Maybe you want to say they are the one God

  1. To be three persons and also be one person is contradictory.

It is not contradictory say that the one God ( theologists would say the only divine substance) subsists in three persons.

  1. That’s also what the church follows in the preface of the holy mass of the solemnity of the Holy Trinity : “who with Thine only begotten Son and the Holy Ghost art one God, one Lord: not in the unity of a single person, but in the Trinity of a single nature.”
  2. If anything, it’s true what you said after “ I think the father, the Son and the Holy Spirit are the same thing.” if with “same thing” you mean the divine substance, the only god.
  3. Finally you ask me if it’s correct to call Jesus with the name of father.

Although in one divine person there is the same thing like in the others( The Son is the knowledge of God and is as grand as God and the Holy Spirit is the love of God which offer himself as a gift this love, is as grand as  God).  However the three persons are different (not separated) because everything proceeds from the Father, The son is the knowledge that proceeds from the father and the Holy Spirit is the love that proceeds from the Father and the Son.

  1. Therefore it’s not correct to call Jesus  Father, although everything that is in the Father is in the Son and although the divine person of Jesus is always united to the Father and the Holy Spirit and with the others is the one God. Jesus is the son of God made man. In Jesus there is divine nature and human nature. In the Father there is only divine nature
  2. One may object : “Jesus call the others with the name of Sons in the Gospel “My children, I will be with you only a little while longer.” (Jh 13,33) so is also the Father”

In this text Jesus call his mates “children” to emphasize the love who feels for us and at the same time to remind us that it is He who has given the power to become children of God (Jn 1:12) by adoption.

  1. He does not mean instead that He is the same thing as the heavenly Father, although He is always perfectly united with him and everything that is in one is also in the other.

When Jesus addresses the Father such as when he says : “I give praise to you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, for although you have hidden…”  and  “”Abba, Father, all things are possible to you. Take this cup away from me, but not what I will but what you will.”he distinguishes his divine self from the divine You of the Father.

  1. In conclusion, one cannot address Christ by calling him Heavenly Father because the two divine Persons, although they are the only God with the Holy Spirit, are distinct from each other

I thank you for the question that helps everyone to be more precise in our vocabulary and in the knowledge of the Mystery of God.

I wish you well, I entrust you to the Lord and I bless you.
