Question
Hello Father Angelo,
I’ve read more in depth about the Confraternity of the Rosary thanks to what you wrote: https://www.amicidomenicani.it/vale-la-pena-iscriversi-alle-confraternite-del-rosario-a-motivo-dei-benefici-che-si-ricevono-in-vita-in-morte-e-dopo-morte-ce-tutto-da-guadagnare-e-nulla-da-perdere/
I try to recite the Holy Rosary (one crown every day) and I get the impression, or rather the not negligible certainty that many of the grave sins that I could commit (or that I have an inclination toward), and I have already committed in the past, are barred to me in some way as a grace from our Holiest Mother Mary and as a result of the recitation of the Rosary. On one hand, I’m comforted by this conviction and, on the other hand, from the necessity to grow everyday in love of the Lord (Charitas numquam excidit), I felt the need (today) to sign up for the confraternity, hoping to become a deserving member of it in my everyday life. I ask you then if you can report my desire to sign up to the Provincial Father who promotes the Holy Rosary so that I can be part of the Confraternity of the Holy Rosary.
Here are my details: (…) City of residence: Düsseldorf (Germany).
I also thank you and greet you and, even though this is the first time I’ve written you, I want to let you know that I follow you and many of your answers found in the forum that you have made available during these years have been of help in my discernment, in my (ongoing) spiritual battle, especially against the temptation to despair.
I wish you the peace and joy of Our Lord Jesus Christ and I ask you to remember me in your prayers every once in a while.

Priest’s answer
Dear Samson,
1. I want to add a few lines to your request to join the Confraternity of the Most Holy Rosary to highlight the two benefits that you’re experiencing with the daily recitation of the Holy Rosary.
The first is the avoidance of falls.
2. It’s the Lord Himself who talks about the necessity of prayer in order to avoid falls and overcome temptation.
He reminds us of this especially in the Garden of Gethsemane where He says to the apostles: “Watch and pray that you may not undergo the test.” (Mk 14:38).
3. When we are praying with the Holy Rosary we bring Our Lady into our lives. We bring her as the ark of the covenant.
First of all, as the ark.
In the same way Noah’s ark saved from the destruction of the flood his family and the animals he had brought inside it, likewise the presence of Mary saves from the destruction of sin. We can say that it keeps sin away.
There is enmity between the devil and Our Lady, like God said at the dawn of creation (Gen 3:15).
4. And then as ark of the covenant.
This ark was built by Moses by order of God.
We read that ‘whenever the ark set out, Moses would say, “Arise, o Lord, may your enemies be scattered, and may those who hate you flee before you.” ’ (Num 10:35).
I get the impression that every “Hail Mary” we say is like a new raising of the true ark of the covenant, of Mary.
It’s as if we were saying to her: “Arise, Mary, may your enemies be scattered”, meaning the demons and the temptations.
Maybe it’s because of this reason that Pope Adrien VI called the Rosary the scourge of the devil.
5. Therefore, it’s not surprising to me that, by recitation of the Holy Rosary, you found yourself freed from many evils, many sins.
6. In your email you also highlight another aspect, namely that the Rosary increases your charity, that charity which will never come to an end (numquam excidit) as Sacred Scripture says (1Cor 13:8) and therefore will last even in Heaven.
It’s not difficult to understand this aspect because Our Lady always comes to us as a mother, as the one who nourishes us, makes us grow.
When we say “Pray for us sinners”, Our Lady comes and brings us all the goods that we need.
All these goods are given to us in order to be able to possess and use the greater good who is Jesus, who from inside of our hearts she wants to love with an ever growing charity.
Most of the time, this happens without us noticing.
But that sense of peace, of satisfaction, of love for God and for our neighbor that we usually feel during and after the recitation of the Rosary is a very eloquent sign of this.
7. The contemplation of the events of Jesus through the mind and heart of Our Lady – because this is how the Rosary should be recited – realize in their own way what the prophet Isaiah profetized: “So that you may be suckled and satisfied from her consoling breast, so that you may drink deep with delight from her generous nipple. (…) As a mother comforts a child, so I shall comfort you” (Is 66:10-13).
What experience of Heaven we could get if we knew how to elevate ourselves as we should and look at Jesus with the mind and heart of Mary.I wish you to always be able to experience this double efficacy of the presence of Mary in your life, I assure you that I will constantly keep you in my prayer.
Since we are members of the same Confraternity, our communication of spiritual goods is not sporadic, but continuous and constant.
I thank you for your subscription which brings us all new spiritual energies.
I bless you.
Father Angelo
