Dear visitors of this website,
1. This year, my message for you touches the entire Holy Week rather than the day of Easter only.
We know that, after Jesus died, the soldiers came and broke the legs of the two men crucified with him. But when they came to Jesus, and found that he was already dead, one of the soldiers pierced his side with a spear.
St. Thomas Aquinas points out that the exact term used in the Latin version of the Holy Bible is aperuit, which means, literally, opened.
2. Now, the concept of “opening” naturally associates with the concept of door. For this reason, St. Thomas Aquinas links the opening of Jesus’ side with the opening of Noah’s ark, indeed, a door on the side. All the animals that passed through that door were saved.
3. Jesus’ side was opened as a door so that we could enter inside His heart, and reach His deepest feelings.
The first human being who ever crossed that door was his mother Mary. The Blessed Virgin was, at that point, perfectly conformed to Jesus’ feelings on the Cross: the expiation of our sins and the return of mankind to the Father (“And when I am lifted up from the earth, I will draw everyone to myself”, John 12:32).
4. Let’s all gladly cross that door, so we can always stay inside our Lord’s heart, hence conforming ourselves to His feelings. Especially during the Holy Week, let’s start all our daily tasks, whether it is praying, fulfilling our duties, eating our meals, by adding these two intentions of Jesus: the expiation of the sins and the return of mankind to the Father.
5. For many will resurrect from spiritual death as a result of our cooperation to the passion of our Lord. Foremost, by laying inside Christ’s heart, we ourselves will resurrect to a new life.
I wish all the readers a joyful Holy Week and Easter day. I bless you and remember you in my prayer.
